Last Knight is adding 2-3 new books to its catalog during
the next year. We are accepting query letters at this time in the areas of fiction:
Sci-fi/Fantasy:
Originality and strong characters are everything in this genre. Regurgitated Tolkien
wont cut it. Please note that we have a pretty broad sense of the word fantasy.
Magical Realism a story that cuts across what is real and what is possible
takes many forms. We want good stories, strong characters and originality
but not flakiness. Take a shot with us if you feel you might fit. Remember, the
writer bears much of the work of promotion in this day and age. If you dont
want to work hard to promote it, neither do we.
We will consider non-fiction that has a niche market. NO Romances or fiction
that doesnt have a point. We are not an art house. We believe that original
stories with strong characters are the cornerstone of good storytelling. If the
focus of your story involves people sitting in: a bar, a coffee house or jail
cell, we are not the publisher for you. Send
Query Letter to: Last
Knight Publishing Company P.O.
Box 270006 Fort Collins, CO
80527 Include a cover letter, the synopsis and
three (and only three) chapters from your novel. Choose 3 chapters that show your
best writing. HINT: We are looking for writers who have worked at
their craft but cant seem to get the time of day from the bigger print houses.
We want those pieces that love and time (to the point of obsession) have created.
Please note we are experiencing delays in responding to submissions. Thank
you for your patience. This is not an exaggeration. DO
NOT EMAIL YOUR QUERY LETTER OR EMAIL TO INQUIRE THE STATUS OF YOUR SUBMISSIONS.
THEY WILL NOT BE ANSWERED.

Last Knight Publishing was created in response to the
tendency of the larger book publishers to overlook new work from new authors that
is creative, original and dynamic, in exchange for those that are mediocre/safe
and sure to fill their coffers with gold. Last Knight is dedicated to publishing
outstanding works of fiction (and now non-fiction) that bring to light gifted
writers that may not have a chance in the cogs of the larger, spit-out-three-new-books-a-month
publisher. Last Knight Publishing believes that a high quality, intelligent book,
printed to the highest of printing standards, can succeed and prosper in the world
of words with the proper marketing and promotion. Besides, being a publisher is
a total kick in the pants.
Send inquires to info@lastknightpublishing.com WARNING: Surfing
the net without protection (MacAfee or Norton) is very dangerous. I received a
virus from the Net that tried to destroy (not just erase but actually destroy)
my hard drive. It took a month to correct the damage done by some pimple faced
dolt half way across the world. Make sure you back up your work. I nearly lost
5 years worth of work in the click of the mouse. Writers Beware: If
you decide to take the route of publishing your own work through the world of
PRINT ON DEMAND or POD for short, there are things you need to be aware of. READ
CONTRACT CAREFULLY. You may be giving up rights inadvertently. You can sign
away your foreign rights, movie and TV rights, translation rights or even the
rights to your next 2 books with on signature. I was about to buy the rights to
a POD book only to find that the book maker had the rights to the book for a year
after the author canceled the relationship with the book maker. Don't let this
happen to you! See an intellectual rights attorney before signing anything. Also,
chain stores (Borders, Barnes and Noble) will not pick you up because POD has
a "no-return" policy and usually the books are not sold a discount that
makes it worthwhile for the chains to pick up. In short, they will ruin any hopes
you have of making a marketable piece About the editor Charles
Kaine graduated from Colorado State University in 1996 with a B.A in English with
Teacher's Certification. Armed with the sure knowledge that he knew what was best,
he set out to change the world, not necessarily get a job. A semester of teaching
in the public sector brought several things to light; things that he had been
shielded from standing behind the high walls of higher education.
First,
changing the world is more difficult than initially thought and second, the pay
sucks. He took his skills to the private sector where his skills as a presenter
were sharpened to a fine edge. Professionally, he became a quality process manager
for a custom print house. He learned the requirements to create a book. Privately,
he became an editor of books and newsletters as well as writing brochures, press
releases and newsletters for local designers. Combining the two things he loved
most, editing and presenting, he created Last Knight Publishing.
